Mobile Industry Going Strong Despite Economic Headwind

A hundred million mobile broadband subscribers and four billion total mobile subscribers – to reach six billion by 2013. The numbers are astronomical, but when you observe the breakneck speed of technological advancement in the mobile internet industry, the reasons of this astonishing growth become clearer.

Every new technology that comes in the mobile industry becomes a growth driver bringing in new customers through improvement in features and reduction in prices. The current phase of growth is being fuelled by the broadband enablement of mobile devices. Whether it is through handsets, innovative devices or through laptops with mobile connectivity, the consumers are being pulled towards a hassle free wireless Internet connection. The mobile broadband revolution is leaving no part of the industry untouched. The operators, manufacturers, value added service providers and those writing applications for mobiles are all benefiting from the new wave of growth.

The Chief Marketing Officer of GSMA, Mr. Michael O’Hara is optimistic about the industry and says that the industry will stay on track despite increasing worries on the economic front. He singled out mobile broadband as the most important growth engine in near future.

At the Mobile World Congress, the major event held by GSMA, the big topic of discussion is sure to be the impact of a poor economy on the industry, as well as the way forward for technologies such as LTE.
