Thanks to the Depression Several Ski Companies Are Reducing Their Number of Luxury Catered Chalets

Thanks to the down turn snowboarding reservations went down this winter.

This is despite of very good pre season bookings and great skiing conditions.

These drops in no.s follows six winters of successive development within the skiing industry, and the number of holidaymakers dropped from 1.1 million in 2008/9 to 900000 last year.

This is partly due to skiers giving the season a miss, whilst additional vacationers who’d ordinarily have two ski vacations, merely had the one.

The independent travel sector fell by 15% and some low cost airlines reducing the number of flights to certain destinations.

Some tour operators saw the reservations reducing by about the same amount.

Nonetheless, the leading tour operators share continued at just over a healthy 70% and a France ski holiday continued to remain the most visited destination with about 37% of holidays.

Due to this many tour operators lowered the amount of luxury ski chalets they rent this coming season.

Luxury catered chalets in particular are going to see a reduction in skiers as a catered chalet costs more for the tour operator in terms of staff and rental if it is unoccupied.

It is unlikely therefore we shall benefit from the deals which were on the market last season.

Costs are probably going to to rise, costs are unlikely to go up a lot.
